Combination of both techniques yielded a posttlvo lost result In 81%. In toxoplasma ch0riore!init& 68% had a posrtiva GW-coefficient for toxoplasms and PCH was positive in 18%. None of the ocular fluid samples of ,mmunocompet0nt persons was positwe for CMV. In patients with AIDS. PCR was poslrivo for CMV DNA In 61% of the OCdar fluia sanples tested. Four ocular flwd samples of AIDS patients w0re positive for VZV DNA and thr00 of lheae patients ware diagnosed as progressive outfr retinal necrosis. Sensitivity of the Cytomegalovirus Antigenemia Assay to Diagnose Cytomegalovirus Retinitis

BACKGROUND Cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis is one of the most important tissue-invasive CMV diseases in immunocompromised patients. Since 1980, non-invasive diagnostic methods, notably the CMV antigenemia assay, have been widely used as adjunct tests to diagnose tissue-invasive CMV diseases. However, there are limited data on the diagnostic value of the CMV antigenemia assay for diagnosing CMV ...

Kyrieleis plaques in cytomegalovirus retinitis

PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to report a case of Kyrieleis plaques (segmental retinal periarteritis) associated with cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis. METHODS A 47-year-old female with recently diagnosed human immunodeficiency virus and a CD4 count of 55 cells/µl presented with decreased vision and floaters in her left eye. Ophthalmic examination revealed an advancing border of white g...

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) blood DNA load, CMV retinitis progression, and occurrence of resistant CMV in patients with CMV retinitis.

BACKGROUND The amount of cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA in the blood (CMV load) may be a marker for detection of resistant CMV.METHODS. A total of 165 patients with AIDS and CMV retinitis had CMV load measurements (plasma and leukocyte) and cultures performed every 3 months; these measurements were correlated with CMV resistance to antiviral drugs and CMV retinitis progression (from masked readings ...

Immune Recovery Uveitis Masked as an Endogenous Endophthalmitis in a Patient with Active CMV Retinitis

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis may occur in profoundly immunocompromised patients and be the initial AIDS-defining infection. The incidence and prevalence of CMV retinitis has declined substantially in the era of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART); nevertheless, it remains a leading cause of ocular morbility. We report the case of a 40-year-old man with blurred vision and pain in the...
